Welcome!
Taste and See the goodness of the Lord!
How true that is of Redeemer Lutheran Church. In so many ways here, we experience that tasting and God’s goodness. From weekly communion in worship to the many programs, ministries, and activities of our church for all ages, to our Bible studies, to our fellowship event with fun and food, there are many ways we taste and see the goodness of God among us. We’re a church which knows that God cares about us, full of people who care about each other too. We’ll care about you too.
Let me personally welcome you to Redeemer’s website and to our church! On these pages, perhaps you’ll get a taste of all that Redeemer is and the many ways we experience the goodness of the Lord right here.
I count it as a privilege and joy to serve these people as their pastor. We’re excited to see what God will do among us next!
What are Sundays like?
Sunday School begins at 8:45am and there are classes for everyone. There are several adult classes, and one of the children’s classes features “Godly Play” which seeks to help the children know and apply the Bible story in their lives. At 9:30am, the classes dismiss and there’s a time of fellowship with coffee and cookies. Worship begins at 10:00am. A nursery is available during both Sunday School and Worship. Our worship is traditional, yet vibrant and not tied to archaic music. It’s a relaxed formality with lots of humor. Sermons seek to reveal God among us in grace and love.
Where do I go?
We are located at 525 St. Andrews Rd. in Columbia, SC, near the intersections of I-26 and I-20. Our main entrance is found at the glass doors facing the road (street view), but there are many entrances to the church. There’s usually someone in the entryway who can direct you, or just stop anyone and ask. Sunday School classes are all over the building, and people will be glad to help you. Worship is in our sanctuary, again near St. Andrew’s Road. Visitor parking spaces can be found to the right just as you enter our parking lot. Handicapped parking is located near the front entrance and at various spots around the building. Take a look at a Google map of our location for directions and reference.
Children in worship
We believe that worship is for the whole family of God, so children are invited and welcome in our worship. For children 3 and under, there is a nursery with caring and consistent staff during both Sunday School and worship for the convenience of those who desire to use it.
What do people typically wear when attending worship?
There is no official dress code at Redeemer, although our worship leaders and many of our church family tend to dress in more traditional “Sunday” dress – the men in a dress shirt and dress slacks, sometimes with a tie and/or coat or suit, and the women in modest dress. However, our main goal is that you feel welcome and comfortable during your visit here!
I am not a Lutheran…. May I attend services at Redeemer?
Of course! We welcome and encourage you to attend with us! Holy Communion (celebrated weekly) is open to all baptized Christians. You will find our members warm friendly, and wanting to welcome you to worship with us.
How do I join?
You may speak to the Pastor after worship or indicate your desire to join on our attendance sheet which is passed down the pew during worship. You may also call the church office during the week to speak to the Pastor.
What goes on during the week?
Redeemer is a beehive of activity every day of the week. The staff is here, tending to the many daily tasks of ministry among a group of committed, active believers. There are Bible studies, meetings of the men, women, youth, preschool, choirs, committees, handbells, preschool chapel, community groups, scouts, English as second language classes, Alcoholics Anonymous and much, much more.
